About The Author

Meet Patricia Brandon

I’m a South Carolina storyteller shaped by family, history, and the complicated people who leave their mark on us.

I grew up somewhere between Southern belle and tomboy, spending more time buried in books than doing anything else. I was the girl hidden away in a treehouse, beach cottage, or quiet corner with a stack of stories, from Nancy Drew and C.S. Lewis to biographies and Southern classics.

Years later, after a rare form of paralysis changed my life, I began writing the kinds of stories I had always wanted to read: historical fiction filled with strong women, forgotten history, danger, heartbreak, and hope. Today, Patricia Brandon is the award-winning author of three novels, each inspired by the past and the people history nearly forgot.

Rise of the Pale Moon

In Revolutionary South Carolina, three young women are trapped in a world built on power, slavery, and survival.

Vieve is an indentured servant from London. Sukie is enslaved. Nanyehi is a Catawba girl stolen and sold into bondage. They should have nothing in common. Instead, they are forced together on a plantation where every choice carries a cost.

As war begins to tear the colonies apart, the three women must decide whether to accept the lives forced upon them or risk everything for freedom. Along the way, they face betrayal, impossible loyalties, and the kind of courage that changes history.

More Than a Mystery

Beneath the suspense is a story about friendship, courage, and what happens when people are forced to face the darkest parts of themselves.

02.

Inspired by Real History

Set during the aftermath of World War I and the Spanish Flu, the novel blends real events with a chilling story that feels impossible to forget.

A Rule of Life

1919 – The Great War is over. The Spanish Flu is fading. America is changing fast, and deep in the mountains of North Carolina, Camp Merrie Woode has just opened its gates.

For Tricia Grimball, the camp is supposed to be an escape from the life waiting for her back home. Instead, she finds a local murder, an attempted kidnapping, missing youth, and whispers of a strange ritual brought from Europe.

As fear spreads through the mountains, Tricia is pulled into a mystery far darker than she ever expected. The closer she gets to the truth, the more dangerous it becomes.

The Center of Gravity

In Nazi-occupied Europe, survival comes at a terrible price.

A young woman is forced to become one of Hitler’s food tasters at the Wolf’s Lair, living each day not knowing if her next meal will be her last. At the same time, a French art professor is ordered to help the Nazis recreate the stolen Amber Room while hiding dangerous secrets of his own.

As war closes in, their lives are bound by fear, sacrifice, and the impossible choices people make to protect those they love. The Center of Gravity is a gripping story of resistance, survival, and the strength people find when everything else is falling apart.

In the Valley of Achor

Is it possible to go to sleep a vibrant, healthy, and active individual – and wake up, paralyzed, from the waist down? The frightening answer is, “Yes!” Patricia Brandon was newly retired, an avid tennis player, and had just returned from active trips to the mountains and the beach. Just three days away from her first trip to Europe, she was faced with sudden and frightening paralysis. What would she do? Would she ever be able to walk again? How would she live her life now? This is the story of one woman’s journey. Patricia Brandon was an elementary school counselor and educator for 34 years, and also served as a special needs consultant for the SC State Dept. of Social Services. As a licensed professional counselor, she worked part-time for The Child and Adult Outpatient Counseling Center at The Carolina Children’s Home in Columbia, South Carolina, and continued to work there, post-retirement. She is a mediator for The Midlands Mediation Center, and Family Courts in Richland and Lexington counties in South Carolina.
